1. What is ZeroBill?
Q1.1: What is ZeroBill? ZeroBill is India's first Privacy-First Digital Receipts & Cashbacks app, designed for offline shoppers. It replaces paper bills with smart digital receipts and rewards you with real cashback, loyalty points, and exclusive offers at partner stores — every time you pay via UPI.
Q1.2: What does ZeroBill offer to consumers?

Q1.3: Is ZeroBill a payment app? No, ZeroBill is not a payment app. It works alongside your existing UPI app (such as PhonePe, Google Pay, or Paytm). You scan the ZeroBill QR code before making payment in order to receive your digital receipt and earn rewards. The payment itself still goes through your preferred UPI app.
2. How to Use ZeroBill
Q2.1: How do I use ZeroBill at a store? Open the ZeroBill app, scan the merchant's ZeroBill QR code at the checkout counter, complete your payment using your UPI app, and your digital receipt will be delivered to ZeroBill instantly.
Q2.2: What if I forgot to scan the QR code before paying? Currently, ZeroBill can only track transactions when you scan the QR code before making payment. If the scan is skipped, no receipt or rewards will be generated for that transaction.
Q2.3: Do I need to link my UPI account with ZeroBill? No. There is no linking required. Simply scan the QR code and pay using your existing UPI app as you normally would.
Q2.4: Can I pay directly to the merchant using cash or another payment mode? Yes. After scanning the QR code, you can select the "Pay Directly to Merchant" option to use cash or another payment method. Please note that to receive rewards and cashbacks for such transactions, you will need to ask the merchant to confirm the payment on their ZeroBill desktop software.
3. Where to Use ZeroBill
Q3.1: Where can I use ZeroBill? You can use ZeroBill at any store that displays a ZeroBill QR code. This includes a wide range of outlets such as grocery stores, salons, restaurants, pharmacies, garages, chemists, apparel stores, footwear stores, and more.
Q3.2: How can I find ZeroBill-enabled stores near me? Look for a ZeroBill QR stand at the checkout counter of participating stores. You can also use the "Nearby Stores" feature (where available) within the app to discover partner merchants in your area.
4. Minimum Requirements
Q4.1: What do I need to use ZeroBill?
- An Android phone with an active internet connection
- The ZeroBill app (available on the Google Play Store)
- Camera access for scanning QR codes
- A UPI app for making payments
Q4.2: Is there an iOS version of the app? As of now, ZeroBill is only available for Android users. An iOS version has not yet been released.
5. Payment & Transaction Issues
Q5.1: I made a payment but didn't receive a receipt. Why? Please ensure you scanned the QR code before completing your payment. If you did scan the code and still haven't received a receipt, please contact ZeroBill support with your transaction details so we can investigate.
Q5.2: I can see a receipt, but my UPI transaction shows as failed. What should I do? A receipt may be generated at the point of scanning, even if the payment was not successfully completed. Always verify your payment status in your UPI app before assuming the transaction was successful.
Q5.3: Can I use ZeroBill for card or cash payments? Yes. You can pay directly to the merchant using alternate payment methods. Please check for the "Pay Directly to Merchant" option within the payment screen to see if it is available at your store.
6. Offers & Cashback
Q6.1: I didn't receive the cashback or offer that was displayed. What happened? Offers are managed and controlled by the individual merchant. Cashback eligibility may depend on the transaction amount, timing, or the validity period of the offer. Please review the specific offer terms within the app.
Q6.2: Is cashback credited to my UPI or bank account? No. Cashback is credited within the ZeroBill app wallet and can be redeemed in accordance with the terms and conditions of the specific cashback offer. Please refer to the offer details in the app for redemption information.
Q6.3: Can ZeroBill guarantee that all merchant offers will be honoured? ZeroBill is an intermediary platform that connects consumers with offline retailers. The fulfilment of merchant offers is the responsibility of the merchant. ZeroBill is not liable for a merchant's decision regarding their own promotions.
Q6.4: Do cashbacks ever expire? Yes. All cashbacks and rewards have a specific expiry date, which is clearly shown in the app. Expired cashbacks cannot be reinstated, so please make sure to redeem them before they expire.
7. Loyalty Points
Q7.1: What are loyalty points in ZeroBill? Certain stores offer loyalty points through ZeroBill. These points accumulate with each qualifying visit and can be redeemed in accordance with the store's policy — typically on your next transaction at that store.
Q7.2: Can I use loyalty points across different stores? No. Loyalty points are store-specific and can only be redeemed at the store where they were earned, unless otherwise stated.
8. Receipt Validity & Usage
Q8.1: Are ZeroBill digital receipts legally valid? Yes. Digital receipts generated by ZeroBill are valid as proof of purchase and can be used for warranty claims, product exchanges, or personal record-keeping purposes.
Q8.2: Can I share my receipts with others? Yes. You can share your receipts via WhatsApp, email, or any other app of your choice directly from within the ZeroBill app.
Q8.3: How long are receipts stored in the app? Receipts are stored indefinitely unless you choose to manually delete them or delete your account, in accordance with the Information Technology Act.
Q8.4: Can I track all my spending in one place? Yes. The ZeroBill app maintains a complete, searchable history of all your digital receipts across every ZeroBill-enabled store you've visited. You can also export receipts for personal accounting or business reimbursement purposes.
9. Privacy & Your Data
Q9.1: Does ZeroBill share my phone number with the merchant? No. Your phone number and personal identity are never shared with the merchant as part of receiving a digital receipt or cashback. The merchant's system receives confirmation that a payment occurred — not your personal contact details. You can shop, collect receipts, and earn rewards at any ZeroBill store without the store owner ever knowing your phone number.
However, ZeroBill may, on a merchant's behalf, send you promotional messages via WhatsApp or SMS — such as offers, cashback campaigns, or re-engagement nudges for stores you've visited. These messages come from ZeroBill; your contact details are never handed over to the merchant. You can turn these off at any time from the notification preferences in your App settings.
Q9.2: Is my data safe with ZeroBill? Yes. ZeroBill complies with India's Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Act, 2023, and employs SSL/TLS encryption to protect your data in transit and at rest.
Q9.3: What data does ZeroBill collect?
- Your phone number (for account creation and OTP verification — not shared with merchants)
- Receipt and transaction data
- Device location (if location permission is enabled)
- App usage metrics and device information
Q9.4: Can I delete my account and all my data? Yes. You can delete your account and associated data using the in-app account deletion option, or by reaching out to our support team. Some transaction data may be retained for the statutory period required by the Income Tax Act.
10. Health & Environment
Q10.1: Are paper receipts harmful to health? Yes — this is a serious and often overlooked issue. The thermal paper used in most store receipts contains Bisphenol-A (BPA) and Bisphenol-S (BPS), chemicals classified as carcinogenic and endocrine-disrupting. These toxins are absorbed through skin contact with the receipt paper. Studies have found that 9 out of 10 receipts contain BPA or BPS. Children are particularly vulnerable, and cashiers who handle receipts daily face the highest exposure risk.
ZeroBill eliminates paper receipts entirely, protecting both you and store staff.
Q10.2: What is the environmental impact of paper receipts? The impact is significant. Over 100 million trees are cut down globally every year to produce receipt paper. Over 1 billion gallons of water are consumed in that production process. Despite this cost, 90% of paper receipts are discarded immediately after being printed — and because of their chemical coating, they cannot be recycled. They end up in landfills where they leach toxins into the soil.
Every ZeroBill transaction is one fewer paper receipt in the world. ZeroBill has already issued over 1 lakh digital receipts, replacing paper at every one of those transactions.
Q10.3: Does replacing paper receipts actually make a difference? Absolutely. At scale, eliminating paper receipts has a direct and measurable environmental benefit — fewer trees felled, less water used, and less chemical waste in landfills. ZeroBill's mission is to make digital receipts the default for every offline retail transaction in India.
11. Refer a Shop or a Friend
Q11.1: Can I refer a shop to ZeroBill? Yes. Use the "Refer a Shop" option in the app to submit the details of a store you'd like to see on ZeroBill.
Q11.2: Is there a reward for referrals? Yes. You may be eligible to receive a reward if the shop or friend you referred joins ZeroBill and completes a qualifying transaction.
12. Incorrect or Wrong Receipts
Q12.1: What should I do if I receive a wrong or duplicate receipt? You can report the incorrect receipt directly from within the app. Our support team will review the issue and work with you to resolve it.
Q12.2: Can I manually edit a receipt? You can delete a receipt, but editing is not permitted in order to preserve the authenticity and integrity of transaction records.

Q14.2: Will ZeroBill work if the store doesn't have internet? No. Both the merchant and the user require an active internet connection for ZeroBill to process receipts and transactions.
Q14.3: Can I track my spending with ZeroBill? Yes. The app maintains a complete history of your receipts and purchases across all ZeroBill-enabled stores, allowing you to monitor your spending over time and export records for accounting purposes.
Q14.4: Can I use ZeroBill for business expense tracking? Yes. You can export your receipts for accounting purposes or to support business reimbursement claims.
